Ding!

Something happens at three months... it's like a lightbulb has gone off. Rhett talks up a storm now ( I need to post a video of our converstaions) and LOVES to stand up on your lap! And just the other day, I had him in my lap dangling his favorite stuffed animal in front of him, and he reached up and grabbed it to play! I was soo elated you would have thought he spoke his first words! It looks like Mr. Personality is on his way out :)

3 months and 3 more milestones

Our little all-star celebrated his 3 month birthday with learning how to grip, acknowldege, and acutally play with a rattle (it's the little things, I tell ya-):

He also got his first view of our neighborhood by riding front face in our friend Bob-the-stroller:
(wake up Rhett,I've got the camera out!)

And last but not least, he got his first crusty nose thanks to the church-based daycare he spent 2 days in last week (we have since yanked him out of there and hired a nanny, more on that later):
Oh, what has my world come to that these become worth blogging about?

P.S. Woke up Sunday morning and discovered a barber shop in Rhett's room thanks to Porter! So hysterical I had to grab the camera.
And on another note-Happy Birthday Coleman! My little bro is not so little-he celebrated his 24th birthday this past weekend! We had a nice lunch with him at Tru-Lucks in Austin yesterday..and I am still full!

Back to Work...

Tomorrow is my first day back at work. I have been dreading this day for a while and will be glad to get it over with. It's not forever, and I am blessed to have a job where I can check on the little man during the day who will just be down the street from me. But until then, I am gonna miss...

Our walks...

Our talks...

Days like this....

And even days like this...

May can't come soon enough!

Things are looking up...

...At least Rhett is! This child hated tummy time, that is until this week when he finally was able to hold his head up! It was a relief for all of us...my doctor told me it was time to put the pedal to the medal and so after many sessions of playing on the floor, Rhett decided to show me his stuff on the changing table. I had to quickly put the camera down as he then proceeded to show me how he could also roll OFF the changing table. I guess that milestone is falling quickly behind this one.

Here is Rhett singing the tummy time blues a few weeks ago...

And here he is now--hooray!
On another note, it is finally here!...The long anticipated bookshelf that Porter and I have been on the hunt for. Rhett has received so many great books from family and friends ("Is Your Mama a Llama?"-my personal favorite), we have been desperate for a place to house them. And, if you know me, you know that I get excited about a piece of furniture like most girls get excited about a Coach purse or a Prada bag (neither of which I own, go figure)...so when this little hutch came in, I had no problem spending our Friday night watching Porter put it together ;) It is red- and I am not even into primary colors, but somehow they have made their way into Rhett's room (sorry, guy), and it works!

Such a good sport-
Ta-Daa!

Sad day in Mommyville

I think most moms would claim this as a little victory, but I have to admit I am a little sad. Yesterday, I was a little under the weather with a minor cold, and it sounded as if Rhett might have gotten a dose of it too: not very fussy, not very whiny, just very tired, so he clocked in a longer nap time. I noticed, however, that when I put him down to sleep, he struggled out of my perfect swaddle that he sooo loves (usually). No problem; I unwound him, put him down, and out he went. Second nap of the day, same story- this time he struggled to get out of my arms as I went through my whole pat-him-to-sleep routine. No problem- he is just sick and wants to be left alone. Hardly. Today Rhett has been one happy, healthy, and cuddly little boy- and come nap time, he let out a few yawns, stretched a little, gave his mom a courtesy hug, and out he was. No rocking or patting required. He has done that for all three naps today and I think this trend is going stick around. I did call my mom and Porter with the news, both of whom congratulated me. No thanks. I think this might be the first of many "Does my baby not need me anymore?" realizations to come. sniff sniff.

Here is little Rhett happy as a lark:

Here is Rhett five seconds later, zzzzzzzzz

The First Noel...

We spent our first Christmas with Rhett in New Mexico at my Mom and Stepdad Mike's house. Since Rhett hadn't had his shots yet, we decided to travel via minivan with my sister Kate and Brother-In-Law and Niece. And after taking a look at the volumes of lugguage we brought to and fro, I think we made the right choice. It was a long ride but neat to visit parts of the southwest I had never driven through and to see how many made up verses to Christmas carols we could come up with to keep the kids settled when the trip became too much!

To grandmother's house we go!

Views from the back seat- I am so glad we drove!

We arrive safe and sound..and some sound asleep!

Hiking behind the house:

A quick pose outside before heading off to church...
Wait for it...

Cheese!

My brother Tommy insisted I let Rhett have a shot at plyaing baby Jesus in the manger as we exited the church...will he ever forgive us?

A major perk about being around family these days: instant babysitters!

Christmas morning, Cousin Ellie and Rhett look to see what Santa's brought...
There were some intersting gifts exchanged...

We all know the truth-

The real Mr. and Mrs. Claus pose after a busy night...

Why our ski trip got canceled:
And how we made up for it...

Emily and I with the little snow angels...

A quick trip to Santa Fe- what you can't see is the FRIGID FREEZING TEMPATURE!

(Speaking of, if you ever are visiting Santa Fe with a sweet tooth, may I hightly reccommend the Chocolate Maven)
Overall, it was a Merry Christmas at Nana's.

Here is wishing you Heavenly Peace!

(note the bib: Porter wore that on his First Noel!)
