This is the deal:

I left my camera at a friends house on Halloween. UGH.

And I didn't even take pictures of Rhett's first birthday party!! What mom does that?! At least my sister and friends were forward thinking enough to turn on their camcorder for me and load up their cameras with lots of great shots, so more to come.

In the mean time, we are just recovering from those festivities, family visits from near and far, painting the house, picking out flooring for the house, a child who has decided that morning naps are a thing of the past, and a husband that thinks Wurstfest deserves every ounce of our free time.

And then there's me. Reminiscing on simpler days.
Updates and pictures soon to come:)

GASP!

In my defense...
It was lunch time and we were 30 minutes from home. Okay, maybe 20.
It was a Chik-fil-A and not just some burger king.
And I substituted the fried nuggets with grilled chicken - no bun (which he DEVOURED),
a fruit cup instead of the waffle fries,
a milk instead of the coke,
and we didnt' even take the toy home.
But lo, I am embarassed to admit- Rhett LOVED his first Fast Food experience.

I know my vegan sister is cringing at her computer right now, sorry Kate!

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,

Happy BIRTHDAY dear Rhetty...
Happy Birthday to YOU.
My little one is one TODAY! After Porter and I were married, we worked at this Family Camp together; I remember hearing a talk about how important it is to pass down a family legacy, and part of that being- retelling your children's birthday story. So here it goes: A year ago, and almost a week late according to our due date, our doctor told me that Rhett was pushing 9 pounds, and she was afraid that it may be a tricky delivery if he didn't come soon. We withstood the pressure of being "induced," knowing he would come in his own time, and sure enough, he did.

It was the day before our doctor's appointment, I felt little Rhett coming- Porter and I were so ready. He put on his "coach" t-shirt I made him the week before (he had it folded in his top drawer, ready to go!), and started scribbling down contraction times between sawing down the hackberry tree out back (like a good coach should do). I will spare you the rest of the details, but after a couple viewings of Die Hard II (not sure why??), a few million walks around the neighborhood-with one neighbor shouting from a few doors down: "Peachy, are you in labor? You look TERRIBLE!" (it's funny things you remember), we checked into the hospital. Seventeen hours later- Rhett arrived, and I will never forget what that was like. My angel nurse plopped him on my chest, he reached out his arm to me, we locked eyes, and that was it- I was smitten.

365 days of joy/anxiety, trial/error, and the most abounding love later, here we are watching our first gift enjoy his first gifts-

Happy 1st Birthday to our baby boy!

Shoo fly, don't booother me

Who knew that fly swatting could be sooo entertaining? Oh, now I am a little worried, I spent way too much time studying child psychology- is it odd that he finds this to be funny?

Then and Now

While I SHOULD be using my son's nap time wisely and do the mounds of laundry that never seem to dwindle.. I decided to instead, thumb through the mounds of pictures we have- that never seem to dwindle.

Anyway thought this was funny to compare: bath time- Then and Now.
